The Green Hypothesis

I'm surprised that there isn't much talk about this color.  It is the colour of nature and sickness and I am going to try and explore why in a backwards way it is the color of life in people and animals.

Why green?

It got me thinking when I was teaching my classes on lighting and shading trying to explain to students about light absorption.   An object looks red, because it absorbs all other colours in the spectrum except red.   Same for blue, etc.  An object looks black if it absorbs all light.   White if it is a poor light absorber.

So we reasoned that if people appear pink, red even blue sometimes then this kind of light is being reflected off them to our eyes and not absorbed.

The only time people appear green is when they are unhealthy...  So in my mind it makes me think that as long as we can absorb green light we remain healthy...   and when the system breaks down and health goes out the window we stop absorbing green light and start reflecting it (making us look green around the gills...)

So are people using green light to stay healthy?

What happens to people who are starved of green light?

What happens to people bathed in it?

There isn't much green light in cities, and the countyside is full of green light.   Green reflected light I must add.

So does green light from the sun fall into the same category as green light reflected light?  If we stay at home with artificial light and reflected non-green light is this making us sick or at least reducing our ability to stay healthy?
